With reference to your letter of the 30th

ultimo acknowledging receipt of my Petition to His

Excellency the Governor for release of my son, Chong

Tong Nie; and as in accordance with your advice as

also directed in a reply from the Secretary of State

in London that the power of mercy should only be

exercised by the Governor of Hong Kong, I hereby

respectfully beg Your Honour to consider my legitimate

request and to appeal His Excellency, Sir Alexander

Grantham to gracefully approve the perogative of mercy

in order to grant immediate relief in releasing my son

from prison.
